Our Mission
At CHaSE, we explore the brain, body, and environmental conditions that support restorative sleep. By using a variety of psychological and physiological tools in our research, including polysomnography, electrocardiography, hormone assessment, and others, we are able to examine how sleep manifests in the body and impacts daily psychosocial outcomes as well as predicts health across the lifespan. We are particularly interested in how the lack of access to restorative sleep can play a role in creating or exacerbating disparities in cognitive health for communities historically underserved by science and medicine in the U.S. By combining research practices driven by intellectual curiosity and rigor with community engagement events aimed at increasing the general knowledge of sleep’s importance, we hope our efforts contribute knowledge that helps our communities live happier and healthier lives through leveraging the power of sleep.
