Upcoming Research Study: Sleep, Alcohol, and Monthly Cycles

Upcoming Study! Will launch Fall 2023

Sleep, Alcohol, and Menstrual Cycle Interactions

Description: This study explores the influence of sex hormones and alcohol on sleep.

Looking for: Women and men between 21 – 45 years old living in Lexington KY who report regular alcohol drinking [2+ drinking occasions and 1+ binge episode (4/5+ drinks for women/men) per week].

How long: This is a 4-week study. You will be asked to visit the lab 4 times at specific times during the month as determined by study personnel and complete at-home surveys for 5 days prior to each lab visit.

What we would ask you to do: Prior to your lab visits, you will be asked to answer some surveys about your health history, wear a watch that tracks your activity rhythms, and complete activity diaries at night and in the morning for 5 days prior to each in-lab sleep session. We will also ask that you come in-person to sleep at the lab on 4 separate visits, during which you would answer some surveys and complete a few computer tasks. Female participants only: We would ask you to track your menstrual cycle for 2 cycles prior to scheduling at-home monitoring periods (instructions and materials will be provided).

How would you be compensated: We will compensate you in cash at the end of your final in-lab visit. You can earn up to $900 if you complete all of the at-home tasks and in-lab visits we request.
